I have a guitar where the binding and the side of the guitar are separating. The binding doesn't seem to be peeling off of the top, it is as if the side is sinking in a bit and the laquer over the binding is pulling some of the wood off.

I have no idea what's going on there either. However, I'm curious about this videogram thing. I got 4 Non Blondes. Is that what I'm supposed to get when I click it?

lots of chatter on youtube about the LP clones useing veneers and this happening.

it was a nice guitar but I think you would do well to strip it and refinish it.

How old is the guitar?
I am thinking that it is caused by a lack of humidity.
Living on the shore of the lakes and it being winter, I am guessing it
is pretty dry air that you are dealing with.
Take it to a luthier and have them put it into a humid box for a couple of months.

I am not anywhere near Chicago but I do live near Mpls. and every winter I put humidifiers on all my guitars for the winter. The air is dry, dry, dry. That combined with the cold can reek havoc.

The guitar is a Hohner LP copy from the 80's would be my best guess. It is a fun guitar to play. I dropped a SD Holy Grail in it and it sounds great.

Gary, you are correct that it is dry around here. For some reason it has been especially dry this winter even though it isn't very cold, I guess it is the drought around here.

I'll pick up a humidifier for it an see if I can get it to mellow out and then think about fixing it.

It looks as if it got so dry (as already stated above) that the glue began to separate itself, and as it it tried to pull away from the maple top, it TOOK the mahogany sides with it. The sides were probably buried under enough lacquer and glue that they stayed connected to the mahogany , and took the mahogany with it as it peeled away.
