How do I get a textured finish?
I've been working on a new build as of lately and want to add a textured finish to it. I'm kind of going for a rhino-lining type look, or possibly a toned down version of the 'popcorn' texture you find on walls. I know this can be done and have seen it on some Ibanez gutairs. I plan on painting the gutair matte black, but I just need to figure out how to do the texture. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I've thought about trying to make that texture once or twice -- first idea I came up with is to goop on some epoxy (maybe thicken it a little with something so it doesn't flow too much), let dry, and sand flat.

If its the same Ibanez textured paint job I am thinking about, it is a special paint. They actually used that type of paint a lot in the first half of the 1900s on just about everything from street lamp poles to candy machines.
If you want it to look and feel like truck bed lining, you can go down to walmart and buy some rustoleum truck bed liner in aerosol cans. I used it to line the bed of my truck, but I used the gallon can. However, Spraying it on is the way to go. That stuff looks and feels great by the way. Here is a thread on the Rustoleum truck bed liner

I don't know.
What I know is, when I get a textured finish, something has gone really wrong and I am swearing a blue streak!! Usually, the humidity has snuck up on me down here; happened too many times. Most of the time, N.O. is a really awful place to apply paint in. |

There are paints out there that dry and wrinkle or crinkle up, such as: http://compare.ebay.com/like/3904281...Types&var=sbar
I used some on the lower half of my front forks on an old Yamaha motorcycle, that stuff was hard! Rocks, bugs, weather did not affect it. After looking further, I think I used the VHT stuff on that bike: http://www.vhtpaint.com/products/wrinkleplus/

Rustoleum and Tremclad make textured paint in spray cans. You can use that as a base then spray your color of choice over it.
