Refinishing my Modern Player
I came across a Modern Player Telecaster Plus earlier this year, and within a week, put several large dings in it!
Well, the Honey Burst finish this guitar came with was beautiful, but not really my style, and with the dings I decided to take the plunge and refinish it. I went back and forth on what color to paint it, and what customization options to use, then I noticed my wife still had some chalkboard spray paint leftover from a previous project, so I went for it. I used Durham's to fill the dings, Ace Premium White Primer and Rust-Oleum Chalboard rattle cans. It gives it a nice matte grey look. There's no clear coat on there now, and I'm debating whether or not to "chalk" it. I think I might get some of that chalk paint they use on coffee shop menus and make some art. Or not. I also swapped out the black pickguard for a Nashville Tele red tort ( I had to drill new holes and cut it to make room for the extra fret, as you can see ) and put the skirted amp style knobs on it. I think it looks pretty sweet! |

Finally got around to putting some chalk on here. "Love is greater than Money."
I used liquid chalk in a marker form. ![]() Made a cardboard stencil at first... ![]() But it was too thick so I went with paper: ![]() It's a little crude but that's kinda what I was going for: ![]() The dark part on the heart is because it is not fully dry yet:
