Colt is there a reason you leave the nut in while you spray?

Because it was already installed when I got it. It was a very nicely cut bone nut, and it was in there pretty good. And I didn't want to risk breaking it taking it out.

Colt, what is the effect of the vinegar on the waterslide? Does it accelerate the setting? Also, when you say you mask off the headstock, do you mean you cover the rest of the neck?

Cheers - Ed

This video explains my entire philosophy on decals

I will have pictures of the headstock masking procedure this evening.

That is a good as having your boots made in Mercedes, Texas by someone named Rios!

Subbed, so I can refer to this later. Just got a 3.5hp air compressor on CL for 50 bucks. I hope it can hang with the Harbor Freight HVLP gun.

If not, you can always buy an airbrush. It would be a PITA for spraying the body, but you can lay down a super smooth coat with an airbrush.

Leedy boots is located here in San Angelo, and I thought I would have a pair made for myself instead of buying a class ring. Alas, they are start at 800$ and they have a 10 month waiting list.

*Important to note

I did not buff the headstock, because I am going to bury it in lacquer. No need to spend the extra effort getting it smooth now. I will do that after I bury the decal.

Ha, I forgot about them. I went to High School in Robert Lee with the grandson of one of the owners of M. L. Leddy's. I even have a ball cap he gave me about 1982.

I never could afford to buy there, but I did do some looking!

Masked the headstock

Burried the decal

Most folks will tell you to mist on the first couple coats so the decal doesn't peel. Its probably important to note their warning. However, I always just pour it on thick, with the neck laid flat. The cool thing about flat surface laid prostrate like this is that they can't run or make drips. So I just pile it on heavy, let it dry, and level sand with 1500 grit.

Went and checked on the headstocks, and I could still see a prominent decal ridge. So I shot another heavy coat of lacquer.

Yahoo! (Enjoyed your decal video. Seems like you rubbed on it more I would have thought safe. Maybe I'm just thinking back to my ham fisted plastic model building days as a kid.)

Disaster struck! As I was walking my neck through the living room, I kicked my buffer and ripped open two toes. Suffice it to say, I completely stripped the neck and refinished it tonight.

Sorry Leon, I am going to have to use 2 of your 3 decals.

I learned two things.

1) Put up the damn buffer
2) And don't walk around all cocky like you just finished a neck in ~ a day.

Colt - I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. No good deed goes unpunished. A little job becomes a quagmire.

Its not your fault I am a Klutz. I hurt myself all the time. Good news is it only took me about 20 minutes to strip the neck and respray it.
