How to Remove High Gloss Finish on Acoustic

Hi guys,

I recently bought an Ibanez AW380ECENT-NT. Love the guitar but the body finish seems like a heavy high-gloss poly.

http://www.ibanez.com/AcousticGuitars/model-AW380ECENT

It has rosewood back and sides and a spruce top. I would love to get it down to the natural wood.

Is there any practical way to strip it with out trashing the rosette or binding? Or should I just leave it be.

Thanks,

kc

I would leave it. If you like the tone what is the issue with leaving it as is?

Do not under any circumstances try to strip any finish from that - trust me, disaster looms! I won't bore you with the details but I have done what you want to do and it went horribly wrong. Never again!

If you just don't like the high gloss finish you could just knock it down a little. No need to remove it all though.

+1, if you want to knock the finish down to more of a satin finish, 1000 grit sandpaper will do the trick. Its going to take hours of work to make it look good, just a warning.
