Help with grain filler prep.

Hi!
To what grit paper would you sand your body before filling the grain?
I'm assuming you'd sand it to the final(finest) grit you're planning prior to finishing, and then go on to grain fill, but I don't want to make any assumptions.

320. Especially when final sanding just prior to painting, because you don't want the surface so smooth that paint will have a tough time adhering to it.

I sand to 220, apply a coat of sealer. Then grain fill.

Thanks, guys.
Colt, if I remember correctly, you use vinyl sealer. I plan to use deft sanding sealer(or the StewMac equivalent), since I have no spray facilities. That stuff is basically a heavy sealer(full of solids). Do you see any difficulty in grain filling after using this?
If so, I will seal with a few coats of clear lacquer before filling.

Nope, I use to brush on Deft Sanding Sealer before grain filling before I got into Sherwin Williams products. Worked nicely. While I do not like DEFT Lacquer, DEFT Sanding Sealer always performed very well for me.

Thanks. That's all I needed to know!
Much appreciated, both of you.
