The Perfect Butterscotch Blonde
Hi guys,
Apologies if this is common knowledge but where is the best place (in europe if possible) to get spray cans of Butterscotch Blonde? The finish i'm looking to recreate is the early 52 Teles. And especially the way those particular guitars look today. Kinda smoky stained!! |

It depends on where you are located. I live in Ireland and am having a hard time getting anyone to post the nitrocellulose paint internationally.
There are restrictions with sending this paint by post as it is highly flammable. |

Oh, I just spotted that you are in Ireland too. I was talking to Steve from Manchester Guitar Tech and he told me that he cannot send nitro to Ireland.
I know its possible to buy clear nitrocellulose from some of the paint shops here so I am trying to figure out how easy it would be to lay down the blonde undercoat and finish with nitrocellulose while still allowing the grain to show through. The alternative would be to add the blonde colour to the nitro myself and see how that turns out. Have you had any luck sourcing blonde nitro paint elsewhere? |

Just a thought, this is what I am going to try anyway. How about tinting ultra blonde shellac with a little white tint and then slowely add the butterscotch color (amber, yellow, what ever - etc) until you find the right color combo for your likes. You could make this very transparent and spray as many coats as you would like until achieving the right look. Then if you want you could clear coat it with nitro, since pretty much anything can go over shellac?? I am goint to try this on a Pine tele I am building. It will take some trial and error to get the right tint shellac mix but since shellac is not toxic I think it would be a safe and perhaps easy way to get a opaque butterscotch effect without having to deal with nitro for the whole process. You could even just spray some un-tinted layers of untra blonde shellac as the clear and then level and polish, I have done this with other guitars and yes it is a bit less resistant to abuse than nitro, but not much.

not sure if they ship that far but try wood essence http://www.woodessence.com/ they are in Canada but just contact them and see if they will ship, I assume they will as shellac is not a dangerous good.
