| Finely Finished Discussion of painting, finishing and yes, even relicing your guitar. Remember relicing is a finish option not an affront to your emotions. |

Nitro - Colour over colour
hi guys,
I've got a strat body that I started finishing recently. It's sanded smooth and ready for painting, and so far i'm toying with the idea of finishing it in an orange 'gretchy' nitro, with a vintage white colour over the top.. Is this likely to go smoothly or will I end up with a mess? I've finished 2 bodies in nitro before (with a spray can) and didn't really have any problems, but a light colour over a darker brighter colour.... ![]() If I managed to get the orange finished, and cured for a few months, when I came to put the white over the top, would it 'melt' the orange and make a brown? My grand theory is that I'd love a relic strat with orange showing through in places where the white is worn... thanks for any help or pointers! |

I guess it never hurts to test it on a scrap bit of wood first I guess I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's done the above or anything similar before? |

And IF you decide to spray clear between colors, realize that clear does not build up as thick a film as pigmented finishes - you can melt through a single coat of clear if you lay the following coat on just hair too heavy, or if the temperature is a bit too cold, or the solvent blend in the topcoat a little hotter. First, I don't think it's a great idea - I think it'll look blotchy. But give it a test run, and if it does look OK I'd apply at minimum two coats of clear...probably three to be safe. That's actually VERY thin.

Your white paint is going to be opaque and probably won't give you the transparency you want. I think you will want to dilute it with quite a bit of clear if you have a spray unit. If not try a Preval unit.
