| Finely Finished Discussion of painting, finishing and yes, even relicing your guitar. Remember relicing is a finish option not an affront to your emotions. |

Refinished my CV Tele
Hello everyone I have been checking out the fourms here for almost 2 years and never joined until now. Nice to finally start posting. I want to thank all of you for all of the great information that i have learned from this site. It is truely amazing what you can learn from the search function on this site. I have read around on quite a few of the fourms but always come back to TDPRI as the atmosphere and information are unmatched. Okay enough about that on to the reason i am posting!
I bought my first "real" electric guitar in June of 2010. I chose a Squier CV Tele. At the time they didnt offer the butterscoth blonde option. So after a few months passed and the honeymoon faded i convinced myself with the help of this fourm that i should refinish it the way i wanted. So i did just that and here are some of the pics i wanted to share with all of you. To remove the finish it took quite a bit of patience i used my girlfriends hair dryer and a razor blade to chip away at the finish. I think sanded it down to a nice smooth 240? i cant quite remember which sand paper anywho. Then proceeded to rig up a totally unsafe spray station in the bathroom in my apartment. Wouldn't recommend that to anyone. for the finish i use shellac flakes i mixed orange and blonde to what looked about right then sprayed on about 8 coats with a preval disposable spray bottle from home depot letting it dry about an hour between each coat. Then used a spray can of clear lacquer to go over the top so i did two coats of that. While i was "under the hood" I decided that i also wanted to change the wiring to a 4 way switch and a no load tone pot. so replaced all the wire and cap pots and an electro-socket input jack. Sorry for the novel! Put it all back together and voila! my dream guitar I love it and will never sell it. Now of course the next time i went to guitar center i noticed that they had the CV Tele in butterscotch blonde which gave me quite a laugh but all in all i am so glad i did it because what i learned was worth it. I think my next project will be a 5e3 amp. Hope you enjoyed! Happy Strummin' Artemus |
