Is Zippo lighter fluid same as Naphtha?

Well, the title says it. Are those two the same thing? Is it ok to use Zippo thing for our purposes here?

Thanks!

The lighter fluid contains Naphtha, but it is cheaper to buy VM Naphtha at a paint store. Probably a better product at the paint store too.

The thing is, I already have Zippo fluid - that's the reason for asking.

What are you going to be using it for?

An accountant would think that a quart of VM&P (varnish makers and paint) grade naptha at the paint store is less expensive than a bottle of ronsonol or zippo lighter fluid. But the rest of us consider it cheaper to use a small bottle that's already on your shelf compared to the investment in time to go get it, space on the shelf, and the cost of buying a bigger quantity than you need.

So if all you need to do is clean the smudge from an old sticker off, then use a squirt of lighter fluid by all means. Only if you think you'll be finding yourself cleaning lots of fingerboards and parts would you need to go down to the paint store.

Yep, Vizcaster, I agree.

Ah, VM&P. You're explanation will help me remember that.

Oh, and it does clean glue off stuff really well. That is why I started with it re-gripping golf clubs, but I went through it pretty quick. I got a better method now, and don't even have to re-tape them.

I learned to regrip golf clubs using "perk" dry cleaning fluid that I later learned was per-chlor-ethylene or something like that and now you're not even allowed to pronounce the word in California.

Vizcaster - YIKES! Yeah, "Perc" is nasty stuff. A known carcinogen. And I agree - for most a bottle of Ronson (the plastic squeeze bottles are great) is far more convenient than buying a quart of gallon and wasting half of it anyway. I buy gallons but fill squeeze bottles - they work great for when I need pressure to flush gunk out of a pedal steel changer!

For all intents and purposes, yes it is! I do it all the time. One little can of zippo fluid will last a very long time. I only use Zippo fluid in my lighters. It burns cleaner, and doesn't burn your leg like that cheaper stuff. I don't smoke, but I do like setting stuff on fire. Plus, Zippos are cool!
