MIM telecaster refinish - Butterscotch blonde

Hi!

I have now stripped my sunburst mexican made telecaster and as i expected, the body has veneer on the front and back. By looking at the "un-veneered" sides, I can see that the body concists of three pieces. And the grain is actually quiet good!

I was thinking about staining the guitar butterscotch blonde/nocaster blonde!

So my question is: should I stain the veneer or remove the veneer, and stain the actually body?

Another queston; Do I have to mix the stain myself, or is it possible to get it premixed?

I wouldn't strip the veneer, might be opening up a can of worms. I've never found a stain that matches BB. Reranch sells it but I dont think they can ship it overseas. You can mix your own using Mixol tints and a Preval sprayer. Also if you stain it the end grain will be darker than the rest of the body. you can alleviate some of that by sanding the end grain with very fine sandpaper which closes up the pores so less stain is absorbed. Or you can spray the end grain opaque like Fender did to hide it.

This is how I approach a BSB finish.

"Toners" as used by furniture fixer-uppers are also an alternative.

I doubt that you will find Mohawk products over there, but there will certainly be something similar

toners are not "weather" finishes and need to be covered by a clear
