Proper Steps to an SG Cherry Finish

I am in the process of building a bass. The neck and body are mahogany. I would like to finish it in the dark cherry red similar to the Gibson SG's from the 60's. Can someone give me a step by step how to on getting this right ? Grain filler, stain, dye, clear, etc……..

Thanks, Mike
