mixol surf green recipe

Sorry, if this has been covered. I'm planning to add mixol tints to Zinsser B-I-N primer to make a color coat. Does anybody have a Mixol tint recipe for surf green? I think the grass green and lime would get me close, mixed with the white, but t would probably be closer to sea foam.

Thanks!

I use

I use green base and white base, then add just enough amber toner to get the shade just right.

A few drops of blue tint into a light green mixture gets that surfy green to come out instead of that middle of a cucumber look.

Can you make a color coat our of Zinser Primer? I've been trying to find (locally) some white lacquer to tint and wondered about this. I'll be using deft clear to clear coat. I'm looking to do Daphne Blue.

You can add white and blue pigment to clear lacquer to get that color. Mixol and Colortone both make good products.

Thanks for the great information! If I get good results, I'll post the magic formula to this thread. The mixol is inexpensive, so I'll buy a few colors and do some testing. The B-I-N primer would be a great way to get a non-toxic color coat. I live in a small place, with kids, and don't have a good place to spray nitro outdoors. Not to mention that I live in the cold, wet side of San Francisco:)

I have not built a guitar using this technique but I took some acrylic art paint and rubbed it on ash and pine with a sponge and then lacquered over it. The test pieces turned out very well. I don't know how durable and color fast it will be but I plan on doing a whole body that way.

Just thought I'd share that...

Thanks, Gary! That would be worth a try too. I might also try an enamel for the color coat. I'm planning to use the Target EM6000 for the clear coats.
