Newbie question - rare Tele finish?

Hi folks,
(1) Has any one here ever see or heard of a "Charcoal Burst" finish - available only on MIJ Teles I believe.

(2) Any idea of how to replicate it for the D.I.Y.-er? Thanks in advance.

Looks like a slate color for the middle and black on the edges. So I'd guess you could start by thinning some black die and spraying it as the base coat, then doing the black on the edges like a normal burst. Try it on a scrap piece of wood first obviously, but thats what would make sense to me.
