Duplicolor Auto Clear Coat Rattlecan??
Hey guys, I've got a 04 Squier Standard Strat with a maple neck that has darkened up pretty good so I want to lacquer it. Would this Duplicolor auto clear coat work? I just happen to have a can in my garage. It says its acrylic lacquer.
Also, do I have to strip the neck or can I just clean it and start spraying. Thanks |

It should be ok to just clean it well and spray it even if it is poly (old enough that is should be completely dry and not react). Start with THIN dusted on coats first just as a precaution.
I've used Dupli-color and couple of times and was pretty satisfied. Seems to go on will and not yellow near as fast as nitro.

Duplicolor now comes in quart cans so you can tint it or thin it for your own sprayer. Much more economical than rattle cans. Just the same I have to say I prefer to use water based lacquer systems.

Keep in mind that I prefer water based lacquer systems like Target Coatings. However universal colorants from the paint store can be used in nitro lacquer, so can Trans Tint concentrated dyes (which are water or alcohol soluble dyes mixed in a concentrated solution of ethylene glycol which you should be able to mix into the nitro lacquer).
