SX- Ash STL Refinish- Pics

Hi Folks,

I just re-finished my SX- Ash STL for the second time and wanted to post a few pics. Originially, I had refinished with Walnut stain and satin Minwax wipe-on Poly.

I liked it before, but lately have been gasing for a lighter more natural color, with a bit of golden hue. So I redid it with Minwax Golden Pecan and the satin wipe on poly. 3 coats of color, 2 coats of poly and I did not fill the grain either time I re-finished. I got a real cool effect after I sanded the walnut down, it stayed in the grain and the end result allows the grain to really pop. Final polish was simply with OOOO steel wool and a vigorous dry rub down with a lint free cloth. Still need strings and I have to fill the pickguard screw holes and re-drill as a few opened up on me during disassembly.

After Pics

The new color looks a bit lighter in person and I am really psyched with the outcome.

Thanks for looking.

Lou

Looks great! Not too shiny. I don't know why but it kind of reminds me of the old Peavey T60 from the mid '80s. I loved that guitar. Yours is like the color of the T60 in a Tele. Heaven!

It looks great. I like the lighter finish.

I've got one, and after replacing the tuners and saddles it's a real player. The neck is perfect. I do wish they had gotten the dots a little closer to the center :) But, the neck plays too well to replace.

I'm thinking a 5 hole pickguard wold look nice.

Thanks fellas. I am not a huge fan of thick shiny finishes so this suits me very well. It's just shiny enough not to be matte. I love the neck on this guitar and now love the color. Although, I do think a WBW pickguard would enhance the goldish tones in the wood. The black PG makes it look a bit too dark- on the fence. Am also strapped for cash so a new PG might have to wait a while- as silly as that sounds.

I was thinking the same thing. You should look for a T-60 to go with it. A very underated guitar IMO. The T-15's had a cream pick guard that I thought looked real good.

Suppose I could go to the site, but is that the stock neck?

Looked at your pics again. Saw it was a SX neck then went to the site. Did not see a guitar with a similiar neck. Like the binding and the fret markers.

onenotetom, they might not have it in stock right now. It's the STL Ash. As far as I know it's the only Tele (STL) model that has that bound neck.

It's a big seller, so I am sure they will be back in stock at some point. You could email Rondo/Kurt and ask.
