Run in sand and sealer....
Hey Crew,
I've been delayed on my tele project for a while. My neck is in good shape. Done with s&s and neck amber today. Body has taken longer. This week I finally got the grain filler in a decent condition to move on. Today I shot S&S and got a run coming from one one of the edges and ran a little onto the front surface. Went ahead and let it dry, waited 20 and then shot a thinner 2nd coat. The run is still visible. What do I do now? I think I have enough in my can for at least one more s&s coat. 2 more would be iffy. What's my process now? Thanks, I know this has been addressed, I just couldn't find it. |

Level out the run with 400 grit, wet. I can even knock down runs in clearcoat, the trick is to mask around the run so you don't burn through. The other trick is to use a small semi-soft sanding block. The rigid foam sheets used for instulation can be cut into handy little sanding blocks.
Sanding runs on surfaces with compound curves takes practice.

You could also level it out with a cabinet scraper or a utility knife blade. Don't slice it, but scrape with the blade held almost vertically. You might try putting a piece of masking tape at each end of the blade so the center section rides a little high.

Got this one taken care of. The run was very minimal once it dried. I did a very wet 600 sand all over and was able to get the run out without taking too much out of the sand/seal. Then I just followed up with 2 more coats s/s before going to color....
On to the next debacle... See "lint in nitro".... |
