Blue sparkle "shrinking"?!

This is an odd little one,and I ask simply out of curiosity, but I have one of those neat little Squier Vista Supersonics in Blue Sparkle. These were MIJ and good quality.
But is it possible the "sparkles",which look like they are silver under a blue tinted top coat and over a black undercoat, could be shrinking?!It seems to me there are bigger patches where the undercoat is showing through recently!

My buddy has that exact same guitar, and it's doing the same thing. The sparkle finish does appear to be shrinking with age.

I wish I had a picture of this thing, but it's been very well loved, in the "dragged through hell and back" way.

We blocked the trem on it and added extra springs, along with replacing the pots, and it's been a great workhorse for him. I had to borrow it once when I broke a spring in my Strat, and I loved playing it.

Sounds like it looks the way it should! Ironically I bought mine because apart from liking the looks it would stop my "good" guitars getting thrashed-and now its hardly had a scratch, just some board wear and rust!
I did fit Schaller straplocks but otherwise stock.Tremwise,I'm at 4 springs but no float. They're real nice to play but always takes a while to adjust to the tuners!Bridge pup starting to whistle a lot recently but has held up real well!
