Urethane Clear?

I have a body inbound. Ash lam top mahogany. I'm planning on wb stain. I'm contemplating 2 thin coats of automotive urethane clear on top.

I've done oil and nitro finishes before, not "reliced" but I was definitley going for a vintage or old, slightly weathered and worn in kinda vibe.

I want this one to be very shiny and well protected.

The neck is done, maple/maple. Tru-Oil, back is satin, head and fretboard high gloss.

I know the debate rages on finishes and tone. I'm not doing base coat / clear coat, just going for a level, shiny finish, just enough product to get there.

Urethane cures very hard and tough, all I want to know is if a coupla mils of clear is going to be tone disaster.

Thanks

guitar companies have been using polyurethane for decades. No one seems to mind, and i dont think it will kill your tone.

I have a body with about ten coats of Dupont Chromaclear on it, it rings like a bell! have no fear, if the sound is bad, it's not the finish!

HELP!!!!!! me also........

I NEED CLEARCOAT HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Im doing my first RE-DO on an older Tele that had a sunburst finish on it. I really LOVE the Daphne Blue color on a Tele. I have it painted with KRYLON and it looks GREAT!! But now its time for clear coat and I cant get it to cover or penetrate AT ALL. I spray and spray and it looks like nothing is covering. Do I need a better clear coat? Do I need a gun instead of a can? Or, do I just need to wet sand and polish? Its VERY VERY rough after the clear coat goes on and Im steel wooling it between coats of clear. Someone PLEASE help me with this proccess!!!!!!! This color is awesome and this guitar WILL be VERY nice if I can get a deep rich clear coat on it.

thanks guys
