It's done

A few weeks before Christmas, my wife noticing I was somewhat depressed after just receiving my diagnosis of severe RA suggested that I get one of those Saga kits just to have something to mess with when the inflammation was down and to kill time as I had to wait 7 weeks to be able to see the RA specialist in Reno. So I looked on Ebay and then checked Amazon and believe it or not found the best deal there. On Ebay most sellers wanted $149 plus shipping for the Saga HT-10 (PRS style) kit. At Amazon I got it for $149 and FREE shipping. Cool. The box of parts arrived in about a week.

So, first job was to reshape the ugly headstock to this.

Do fret leveling and recrowning and polish.

Then tint the neck and headstock.

Then tape off the body for natural faux binding.

First layer...amber.

Then finally assemble all the parts and turn it into this.

Still in the setup process, which will probably take the next few days. But so far I am very pleased at how it turned out and even more impressed with the way it feels and plays. It sounds great and plays like butter. And LIGHT! I'd compare this to many guitars I've played that cost well over $1500.

The truss rod cover is off in case I have to adjust it while I'm doing the setup.

An update on my RA. My new doc increased my one new drug and added another to help the first one work better. I started the new treatment on yesterday and today I feel GREAT. The doc said that he was positive that he could put the RA in remission and I'd be back playing guitar in no time... he was right. I played for hours last night and again this morning. NICE!

VERY nice work, beautiful guitar. :-) I noticed the fretboard markers went from dots to half moons, a nice touch. How did you do those? Again, great work! CS

That is excellent news. I'm very pleased to hear such a good diagnosis.

Chris S. the fret markers are actually stickers and they're the Ying Yang symbol. I got them on Ebay, a guy in Japan makes them, they are super thin and removable. He offers a TON of designs for fret markers.

Boris... I bet I'm more pleased than you... :) and THANKS it is excellant news.

I can tell this is not your first rodeo. Very nice work on that sunburst. The best part is making something inexpensive into something that nice, and personalized.

RA is tough to live with. I wish you the best possible luck with that

Doing OK so far on the RA. As long as I can play I'm happy. And that is guitar #13 or 14... stopped counting at 7.
