all this talk about darkening neck finish, what about darkening body finish?
i have a tele body with a thin acrylic lacquer sunburst. the natural part of the burst is very light amber, and i want to permanently darken it to a deep brown (rosewood type color) without a refin.
so what's the best way? -rub some dark shoepolish on the body like folks do to their necks? -get a rub on stain, and stain over the finish? what say ye?

The factories put nitro on top of poly...
I have butterscotched a natural finish with tinted tung oil that looks great. Going all the way from lite to dark is the hardest to achieve. Spraying acrylic poly or nitro maybe the only way to go. |
