Put at least the Boss pedals in a bypass loop - their buffer is really one of the worst tone suckers around (and I'm speaking from personal experience her, not hearsay, mind you!) - if you'd use just one, fine, but three in a row will definitely mess with your tone!
I don't know most of your other pedal from personaly experiences, but generally speaking, one or two *good* buffers in line (eg. one at the beginning of your effects chain, one at the end) won't mess with your tone too much (and might even be good, eg. if you use very long cable runs), but more than that is going to mess with your tone, and while some people don't mind that, many do (esp. those who have compared what their guitar sounds like going straight to the amp to what it's like after all those buffers) - so, generally speaking, except for one or two buffered pedals, everything else should either be true-bypass, or put in a true bypass loop!

Hey Hoodster,

I did mess with the compressor some and I think I used it on one setting on one tune. Although most people don't put their compressor last in the chain - that's where I had my G2 - it still sounded decent. The old rule applies, 'trust your ears'. If it sounds good it IS good.

If I recall I used the fast attack on it but I don't recall my specific settings. I'm no longer using the Zoom because I picked up a Line 6 M9 the minute it came out - it was what I was looking for when I got the Zoom; it models only effects and not amps and all that other crap that the POD does. It's a great sounding pedal.

The G2 served its purpose for me while I used it, especially considering its price. I'd still recommend it for someone looking to use it in a similar application for low bux.

I didn't think it would be that interesting, but since two of you yelled at me, well, okay! Notice the simple little V cut to allow for the plug to pass through. It doesn't have to be very big for the cheapo (but good enough) MF cables that I use. I also put on the OP's rubber feet, though you can't see in the craptacular cell phone photo, but they are useful. A tip: pre-drill the holes for the feet on the upright back piece, you will split the narrow board if you don't.

This Gorm thing is solid enough that you could put your Cry Baby on it (but on the outside, for sure) and be able to trigger it without worrying about breaking the board. I don't use it enough to carry it around, but it fits perfectly.

Plenty of space for more pedals, too (and 2 on order, yeah!), I just spaced them out since it would look silly to have them all crammed together.

I am VERY appreciative to the OP and whoever else came up with this idea. It's easy and cheap, yet very good quality. Thanks a lot!

Not to my knowledge. Crowther's design is relatively unique among gainers. Lots of other very workable solutions presented within the thread - cranking an amp, using multiple gainers, etc. I've used those approaches. going ot buy a new reverb tomorrow and i was going to get the holy grail nano but i came across the holy stain just for the reverb. I mean its cheaper and it looks like it has some fun stuff to play with i mean i would never use it live but what are your thoughts
---End Quote---
Having used a Holy Stain for a while I can tell you that reverb is what the Holy Stain excels at. It's actually quite good. Much better than what you get with the Holy Grail, in my opinion. There are only two reverb modes on the Holy Stain (Room and Hall), but you have much more control over the reverb effects than you do on the Holy Grail. No Flerb or Spring modes, but the reverbs on the Holy Stain can get pretty lush. Ideal if you like playing ambient dreampop/shoegaze type of music.

The fuzz mode on the Holy Stain is decent, but the tremolo mode is very limited. Pitch shift mode can be fun to mess around with, but is somewhat limited as well. There's also a considerable difference in volume between the "Clean" mode and "Fuzz" and "Drive" modes, so you have to compensate by tweeking the volume knob to increase the volume on Clean mode. Also, you can use either the Clean, Fuzz and Drive settings along with both reverb modes (Room and Hall) as well as the trem and pitch shift modes, but you can't use the trem and pitch shift modes along with any of the reverb modes.

I like thick lush cascading reverbs and if I only had $99 bucks to spend on a reverb pedal I'd probably get a Digitech Digiverb over the Holy Stain, but the Holy Stain isn't too bad of a deal when you consider it's a multi-effects unit. I also think it's worth the $99 price tag if just for the reverb effects alone compared to the Holy Grail Nano. But, if all you want is a spring reverb effect then the Holy Grail Nano will do the job just fine and won't even take up a fraction of the space the Holy Stain will take up on your pedalboard.

Strangely, i have only heard GOOD things abour this little yellow unit, i want to try it sasp, as i love some lucious 'verb with an already atmospherric/trippy song.

im not really a reverb guy- i just wanted something to add some ambience to some electric slide stuff. i dont do surf or anything like that, and actually always preferred a warmer dryer electric sound in the past.
i saw one of these for sale not long ago- and a search turned up some posts by a member here (i think he is here anyway- anyway thanks! to him).
i wont single him out, but he did a bunch of mods, and showed gut shots etc-that convinced me to grab the dano- $65 canadian- it was mint and came with an adapter-
it does everything i want it too- im no authority on reverb, but i like this pedal. it does a big drippy reverb sound, but i use it more subtley- works well.
inside it looks like the Little Lanilei- may be very similar.
