I want to put a Don Mare Stingray (triple tapped) and a (double tapped) Big Box neck pickup in a guitar. I would like all of the standard three way classic Tele pickup combinations, but I want to be able to use the pickups tapped any way I like. I dont mind a 5 way switch and a push pull pot or two. I want to maintain the Tele look. (no new holes in the guitar)

Any ideas? I appreciate any help in building my ultimate guitar!

Could you use two positions on a 5way switch to activate two of the bridge taps?

Pos #1 Neck
Pos #2 both
Pos #3 Bridge tap1
Pos #4 Bridge tap 2
Pos #5 Bridge tap 3

The use a Push Pull Pot to access the second tap on the Neck pickup?
---End Quote---
Easy enough to do this with a 5 way switch. How did you want the push-pull to work? Did you want it to replace pos#1 with a neck tap or did you want it to over-ride the 5 way setting?

i.e. option 1 = neck tap only on pos#1
option 2 = neck tap on all pos#

Happy to draw up a wiring diagram if you want.

I'd never recommend turning the bass up to 10 on a Fender - it actually thins out your tone and puts too much energy in a useless place for band work. *When the bass is up, the critical middle is sacrificed in the Fender tone stack.*

IMHO the Fender bass control is useless above 4 or 5. It does NOT add warmth above that, just mud.

On stage, my bass control on DRs always winds up at 3 to 4, tops. Treble at 6 to 8, depending upon amp placement. With a Tele or Strat bridge PUP, the guitar tone control does the rest along with good right hand technique.

And yes, back off the bridge PUP from the strings.

Yeah I agree. No real big statement here from the OP. Basically saying these pups are not the end of everyone's tone search...nor is any other pup for everyone. I have a set of Keystones. I *did* buy them based on all the hype. Verdict for me - neck pup is amazing. I will never part with it. Bridge pup - very good...not sure it's the "right" pup for me though. That being said I would not hesitate at all recommending these pups to anyone. High quality and the price is unreal. I bought them because it was a no lose purchase based on the cost & the demand. You could easily sell for minimal loss. $67 brand new shipped for a high quality product. You can't ask for more even if they are not perfect for you. You can actually afford to try them.

Vintage Plus or Hot Classic?

I want to upgrade the pups in my partscaster and I'm thinking of Toneriders, but I can't decide between Vintage Plus or Hot Classics. I like classic Tele tones, but I also like a bit of 'grunt'.

Do the Hot Classics sacrifice 'tone' and 'twang' for output? Have the Vintage Plus got 'balls'?

There are sound clips of the VP on the Tonerider site and they sound really nice, but no clips of the HC, unfortunately. Has anyone got experience of both of them? Can you describe the difference?

Thanks for your indulgence!
