Grille setback is 1.125. I really like the look of 'fender style' cloth streched over a wood ply frame of .5 or .625. I make stand off's with velcro tabs to get to 1" so there is a .125 recess to the closth. Kind of hides what's under the hood. I've had some players ask (about my other DIY projects) Is tha some old Ampeg or sumpin ? I tell 'em the born on date was mid-last week and they just look at me funny ...

Woofer in tweeter's clothing ? This thing on sec will do 46 hz, 3 db down ... that is considerably deeper than say an Ampeg 8x10, Acoustic 301, Sunn 200S 2 x 15 ... It takes some power to get there, but get there it does. Small rig's that slay is my motto. My back's motto too! Volume wise it is at least comparable than my existing 2 x 1 x 15 stack. That stack does take a lot less power to get there though ... going deep and staying smooth takes a ridgid cone, stiff suspension - those aren't efficiency friendly attributes. It is a partial explaination of why HIFI speakers are so ineficient - not that this is a HIFI cab - absolute top is about 6K which povides for a similar roll off to a good cab based on 10's and not tweeters. IIRC the MY old SVT rolled off about 3K so the 6k top on this is just an octave higher. It's less noticible than you might think.

String guage for short scale

ok, I play guitar, but decided to learn bass. I am picking up a short scale bass and need a little help on which strings. For the guitar, I know how to pick my preferred strings based on the guitar, pick ups, tone, etc that I am looking for. Is it the same way for a short scale? What recommendations to start the quest?

Anyone ever have Rickenbacker bass?

I wanted a lefty rick really bad, as I bought an Ibanez bass cheap (haggled because it was missing knobs) the tone was O.K. came with an active EQ waste of time to me. Didn't mate well with fuzz.

Rickenbackers are cool enough not only in their tone, but they just look so snazzy. all of their guitars do.

Instead of shoeing out money though. I got the active EQ in my bass bypassed. I knew it was hurting the tone. but I didn't know how much til I plugged it into my amp afterwards, WOW. I still want a Rickenbacker, but the need to replace the bass is out the window.

Sounds a lot more like a stingray. Now it's just pickups, Volume and Mix. to output. much better tone. and now it works with fuzz. For some reason with the Active EQ ran into fuzz there was a huge low end loss, now the low end stays.

The need for a rick has dropped immensely, but the Look still makes me gaga. yeah Gaga.
