hi all:

Back in my youth, I bought my first guitar, sight-unseen, from Daddy's Junky Music Store (remember them?). It was a Fender Squier strat in red but what was unique to me about this guitar was that the headstock said Fender in big letters in the usual spot, with a tiny 'MADE IN KOREA' under the Fender logo. Then on the round very end of the headstock, past the high-E tuner it says "Squier SERIES". Serial number is CN211437.

I was told that Fender's digital records only extend back in Korea to around '93 and even then they are hit or miss. I understand that sometime in the 80's, Fender began putting together both Fender and Squier guitars together in Korea. I have seen lot's of MIK guitars with big "Squier" letters and smaller "by Fender" logo's, but I have not seen any where the primary logo was Fender AND has the "Squier SERIES" tiny logo.

Can anyone tell me more about this guitar?

See where it has the serial number and the MIM decal? That's been removed on yours and a fake CS decal stuck on in it's place.

And by the way - you can buy a brand new one for $50 more than your one...

Given their 10 million options, they should have caught on to this years ago. I sure ain't buying one, though. Depreciation is vicious and although pretty they have no soul (although I feel that way about PRS too). Actually I just checked their site and note they will do different fretboard radii but NOT thickness and shape variations (except on the Holdsworth which does have a thicker neck and the newish Jason Becker which has a THINNER neck). I see nothing about speccing neck shape or thickness. "Any option you want except making a guitar you can actually play"... Fail.

It's like a custom boot mfr making boots in 10 million combinations of styles, colors, leathers, etc. But only in size 9.

I have counseled two friends in the last couple years who bought Carvins, however. One guy plays lefty but with the strings righty, and Carvin accommodated him so he did not have to reverse the nut himself (but they revoked his return privilege).
