A large multi piece abalone dragon crawling all across the face of the guitar, yeah. But a small, well-glued WOOD inlay, worth a shot IMO.

On that note, Roger, nice work on the headstock. It's tough to come up with something that's not left-field radical, but different from the commercial standards, I think you did a great job with yours.

Rob, weren't you going to build an AC-4 (or was it 5 or 6 . .?). Not that you're not doing well with the one you have---.

The wiring diagrams show the prongs on the 3 way switch the exact opposite of what the StewMac switch is. Can anyone tell me the correct way to wire this setup. A diagram would be very helpful. I have an email into StewMac, but it's the holiday weekend, and I'm sure I won't hear from them until at least Tuesday, and I'd like to get this up and running.

Thanks, Mike

I just looked at the Fishman info sheet with wiring diagram. Confusing, to say the least. They make it look like you can only use a stereo jack. That can't be right.

Below is a photo/diagram of the lever switch now sold (CRL) It's different from "vintage", which many of the diagrams show. I'd recommend you look up standard wiring diagram for Telecaster, substitute the diagram below for the switch. Once you get it working, and selecting/blending pickups, then you can experiment with the attenuation circuit they show in the Fishman diagram.

Good Luck, let us know how you make out with it.

Thanks for the info about using chunkier "dust" for the mix. I was using finer dust, so I'll take your advice this time.

I got the bandsaw setup and cut out the body and headstock templates. They turned out good, there's just a little bit of sanding left to do on the headstock one. I didn't take pictures yet.

Here is the finished drawing with some hardware. The rest of the hardware matches other than the knobs which will be wooden, and the frets, which are obviously not cosmo black (although that'd be pretty cool).

I'm not sure of the actual pickup or tuner locations yet, so I just laid them out. Those string lines on the headstock are crooked.

Yeah, Brads guitar looks great!

But I was looking for more like a color number for a spray can, a brand that has just the "right" pink color or a recepiet for a blend of nitro colors...

Thanks anyway! :)

last year I bought some reclaimed 100+ years old tiger maple from old wood workshop. the wood is from upper Michigan and has very very little nail penetration. I bought 2 blanks. enough for 2 necks. if I remember correctly it was almost 500 dollars for both of them and that included shipping.

I really want(ed) to buy the other couple blanks he has left but I have 2 many obligations and irons in the fire to buy the others.

he still has some left.. but like I said... it is not cheap. but it is high grade and in very very good condition.

heres a photo of 1 of the blanks I bought. it is really beautiful and very high quality I bought from him.

1 of them will be my next maple neck. it is pretty thick and may also be enough for a maple neck and a maple cap for it made from the same blank. I would tend to go for the 2 piece neck only because if you wear a 1 piece neck down its gone. but a 2 piece you can take the old board off and put a new 1 on. BUT. I don't think I will ever wear a neck out but it is a consideration. I like the idea of a 1 piece because that was what was original when they first came out. ( im a strat guy but the same thing applies ).

and for going with a 2 piece if there is enough wood for a 2 piece and only make a 1 piece... then there is wasted wood. not much but it adds up.

his # is 860-655-5259 or go to his site. old wood workshop.

he also has A BUNCH of really old pine, oak, chesnut and some other stuff and was a good guy to deal with.

some of the pine is from the 1700's and he has a lot of pine from the early to mid 1800's.

I've used one before, as adjustable as a typical tunomatic. I'll be using a tailpiece. The only downside I can see with it is that it won't swap into hardly anything that isn't built for it. It's big. I actually really like the delrin saddles but you have to keep them in mind with grounding-- gotta go through the tailpiece.
