No, quite the opposite.
Jack was a very strong "advocate," let us say, of his opinions within the band.

This is really outside of the thread and we can discusss offline but ...

Obviously I did not know Jack back then. But I've spoken to those who did. And they say he's always been this way. I suppose someone who has taken Psych 101 would call it a Napoleonic complex. (Jack is a short statured man.)

One name-dropping story. Sorry.

A few years ago GE Smith did a concert and Jack played bass for him. On a whim, GE had the band do a funk song (I forget which, doesn't matter). In the middle of the song GE called for "just drums n' bass!" Jack held the funk down and the drummer did sort of a solo. It was very cool but it would have been wild if Jack had done a solo there too.

Now, remember. The show was billed as GE Smith's band. He's the headliner. He's the band leader. All the songs were his and he sang all the songs.

After the show, I mentioned to GE that he should have nudged Jack into doing a solo, that it would have sounded great there. GE agreed it would have sounded great but said "Me tell Jack what to play!?"

That should give you an idea.

He's wearing the same shirt. I think it was the same night.

What I meant was that I thought that he had played an Epiphone Masterbuit a few times on the show (this season). Not on one show.

The guitar I am talking about did not have a cutaway.

Well, I still can't get pass this similarity in appearance. Or maybe a sad foreshadowing for David Cook.

considering all the schlocky songs they make these performers sing (Andrew Lloyd Weber night!?!?!) Cook came out pretty well in the end.
Why should they?

You're assuming that is the career path they want and also, I'd bet that many better performers were passed over in the audition. I really don't believe talent played that much of a role in whom was selected to appear on the show or there would be more talented performers.

Like I said, in my city and yours you can probably name far better performers (assuming you get out on the town from time to time). Surely SOME of them thought they'd give it a shot but the producers didn't see them fitting into the lineup. Clearly, being cute has helped both of these boys get to the final round.

Sorry! You're right. Serves me right for surfing when I should have been either sleeping or watching basketball.

Apologies.

"That is from a very polite angle, as well. Half of her performance was shot from the front row on the floor. I don't know how they didn't get a panty flash where they were. I was sure it was coming..."

I know enough about stagewear to know that there was something covering her bits. Otherwise, she'd be cashing in with Playboy instead of giving it away for free. Legs are one thing, the "bathing-suit area" is something else entirely...

Does anyone else recall Terri Nunn writhing on the ground, panty-less, at the US Festival, as Berlin played the song "Sex (I'm a Slut)"?

This is the way I look at the show also. It's not meant to be a "pathway to a musical career". If it was, it would be called American Musicians Competition or something like that. The whole "idol" concept is what makes the show almost comic like, or trash magazine material. Because, IMO, an idol is someone or something that has a false following. Without getting too religious, it is usually morally wrong to worship false idols. That means that creating an idol is the main goal of the show, and music (or singing) is just a side dish. We as a human race seem to need idols in our society to live vicariously thru. Then, when another, better idol comes along, we discard the first. No serious musician would consider that as a great way to get into the music biz. BUT, Carrie and few others seem to have at least cashed in on the deal. JMO.

You may be talking about this one:

these shots are from the episode where he went back "home", but i think he played that guitar in at least one of the hollywood shows.

She's completely transformed from the simple Midwestern girl we saw on TV. I like where she's gone all the same. :D

Yeah, thet seems to be the one.

Those Masterbuilts are pretty solid acoustics. Much better than the run of the mill ones That Epiphone puts out.

Sorry, but I don't care about Carrie Underwood's underwear. ;)

Tony Romo spoiled the whole fantasy for me.

"Linda Sharp, smitten as a schoolgirl, voted 473 times for Cook after Tuesday's final performance show. The 42-year-old married mom used her land-line and cell phone — as well as her three daughters' cell phones — to show support for the singer.

"The biggest thing: He's legal, and that goes a long way," said Sharp, who's from Austin, Texas. "He's 25. That's old enough that we can openly ogle him, and we can drool over him, and it doesn't make us feel like we could be his mother."

And who says it ain't all about the music? MILFS everywhere, unite.
