American Idol??????
No love for Idol this year? Seems like in the past, there has been a lot of talk about the show and, unless I've missed it, no one has posted about it so far this year.....
So, let's start it off..... What about the new format for elimination? What about the new judge? (Whoever she is???) Will Seacrest and Cowell actually come to blows before the show is over? Who are the front-runners so far this year? ( I gotta go with the 16 year old red head who sang Heart's "Alone"; man, what a voice.) Whatda think???? |

I guess the new elimination process is okay, don't care much for the new judge. I've heard that she and Paula have had some run-ins. My guess is it will be between the redhead and the guy who sang "Satisfaction".

a couple of weeks ago there was a thread about NOT having an American Idol thread this time...but what the heck.
i work at a Fox TV station, so it's almost required viewing for me (not that some episodes aren't torture). don't like the new format. don't like the new judge, just because four is too many. i wouldn't mind if she simply replaced Paula...but with four of 'em there is way too much judge patter this year. i'll agree with Joe M on the 16 year old redhead. also like Danny Gokey from last week. i'm disappointed that the contestants aren't playing instruments this season (they are allowed to, they're just choosing not to, i suppose). it added a good element last year.

While American Idol isn't everyone's cup of tea, as a singer, I'm drawn to it. Moreover, its one of the few shows that the entire family comes together to view. So I'm a fan.
New Judge (Kara): She has good insight, and is a great singer herself. She has the chops, the credibility and importantly (to me) she's a lot of fun to look at. With that said, four judges is one too many. Paula must go. New Format: I don't care either way. I'm glad they change it from season to season. One this that is consistent - the results show is torture. I DVR it and I can watch the entire show in about 5 minutes.

I was sorry to see Tattoo Girl go, maybe she'll make it in the wild card round.

Kinda getting bored with the show, but here's my take:
The new elimation process is a non-issue IMO. Because I've always felt that the top 12 (and maybe even the winner) are all chosen before the competition even starts. I mean, it I were a producer and planned to spend alot of $$$ on an unknown singer, I sure wouldn't leave anything to chance. The new judge is being groomed for the removal of Abdual IMO. And I feel this is a good thing. Paula is just a praise machine that is afraid to give critical opinion...not very interesting...unless she's drunk. Cowell and Seacrest might get physical before the show is over, but it won't be fighting. |

Totally agree with emu!
I've never believed record companies will put bunches of money behind someone who isn't hand picked. And I think they hand pick 3 or 4 at a time to get them exposure before launching them. The judges have a lot of influence of who gets votes and steer the masses with their comments. All said, we still watch it as a family so it can't be all bad. |

IMO, the contestants are really bad this year. There are some good ones, but overall I've been disappointed. I think they peaked last year, but I just can't stop watching it.
The redhead has a great voice. She absolutely killed that Heart song. I also liked Jesse's voice, and she's not bad to look at either. |

Gotta disagree here; I don't think she'll make it to the next round....it's gonna be the last gal, Lil, I think, and Jorge and probably Scott that get through... |

Now I kind of tired of the whole thing. The winners' singles all have a sameness to them. The contestants fall into the same kinds of groupings every year: Whitney wannabes, country girls, pouty rockers, pretty-boys, and the odd flakey contestant. I haven't actually seen any of it this year, so maybe my opinion about that is wrong. Nonetheless, I'll watch Canadian Idol instead, just for the local content. |
