Fender--why do you tempt me? I can't TAKE this!!!

I do NOT need another guitar--ANY guitar, not just a Tele--but for $300 bucks? PINE!? And with that BRIDGE!?

DAMN you Fender! Damn you to HELL!

I'm going to resist until that model comes out in red sunburst with white binding, and I'm willing to go to $325 for that, not a penny more.

But I'll pay $400 if they lose the Squier logo.

Are we sure this pine Squier Tele is a full 25.5" scale? Not a 24.75" like the Vintage Modified Telecaster Thinline?

Because for me, modding wise, that really would be a kick in the nuts.

Until Squier publishes the specs, we don't know the nitty gritty about it at all. The writeup at samash is short - lacking lots of details. We are mostly going by the mostly low resolution image - which does look like a killer guitar

I've played a few of these VM boxes - the necks are nice and I like the gloss finish. Some of the examples I played had some sharp fret ends, so I'm going to make the rounds before buying one. The nut is pretty basic plastic and really needs either better slot filing (all the guitars I saw weren't filed nearly deeply enough) or replacing. I think I'd replace it. The bridge...well, it'd have to be a Vin-3-saddle bridge - which I'm sure will be an improvement. I do like the fret size and neck radius, but some of the details need attention. I suppose that's what we get for 300 baloons.

If the Sam Ash info is correct, the new Tele here isn't in the Vintage Modified series. It's in the Custom Vibe series, which is a new series.

I don't know about other parts of the country, but a Squier of any type is tough to find at a GC. It's usually the independents (and Sam Ash) that stock them. I think throghout Philly, I've been able to find 3 or 4 Vintage-Modeifieds. I hope this new series gets more shelf-space than the rest of the line.

Living in Vermont, I don't have many choices - but Daddy's in Williston does carry some Squiers, so I have a had chance to see and handle some - the VMs are very nicely done - hopefully they will have the Classic Vibe series.

Who knows, maybe even Guitar Sam in Montpelier will carry them.

Sounds just like 90% of all guitars I've ever picked up - from cheapo Chinese copies through to Made in the USA. I always dress the fret ends as a matter of course (after all - your fingers are gonna be sliding up and down them every time you play), and you would need to re-slot the nut anyway depending on the gauge of strings you use.

I wouldn't expect to be totally happy with ANY guitar straight out of the box - how would the person who built it know how high I like my action, for example, or what gauge of strings I use, or how low I like my frets?

But I must say that most of the Squiers I have played have been pretty reasonable. The last one I bought was the Custom II (with the P-90s), and apart from a little dressing of the ends of the frets, it was finished really nicely.

Can't WAIT for these "Vintage Vibe" Teles to arrive in the stores!!!...

Something I've thought they should have done for a few years now. Tinted/lacquered necks add serious mojo to any guitar. And it improves the overall look of any Fender style guitar (especially cheap ones) ten-fold.

The reason I asked about the finish is because I bought a MIJ Strat a few years ago that turned out to be made of compressed sawdust with some kind of thick, plastic looking finish on it.

It was beautiful and sounded great. The original owner actually came back a few months later and talked me into selling it back to him.

If you bury pine under a thick coat of plastic, you cant hear it or see it so who cares what they make it out of.

Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster 50s Electric Guitar (Vintage Blonde)

The Squier Classic Vibe Series reflects that simultaneous commitment to excellence, value and 'vibe'. Mirroring classic Fender designs, the Classic Vibe offering is not intended to be era or vintage correct but rather imparting the 'vibe' of a classic Fender design. Each with distinctive feature set combinations all adding up to one classic looking instrument. Great sound, vintage looks, unbeatable value - Classic Vibe!

Classic Vibe Telecaster '50s: The Classic Vibe Telecaster '50s has a look to die for - 50s blackguard Tele vibe! The Vintage Blonde over pine body totally resonates and you'll be hard pressed to tell whether or not you are holding a premium ash body guitar! Of course pine is not a foreign wood to guitar making or Fender history for that matter. Early single and dual pickup Esquire guitars were made with pine bodies. Featuring a 21 fret vintage tint gloss maple neck with the modern playability of a 9.5" radius and medium jumbo frets & outfitted with a custom set of AlNiCo III single-coil pickups, this Tele has tone that can really hang with the big boys clear note separation even in distorted modes and dynamically responsive with a strong midrange & high end bite for leads! Case not included.

+1.

The tinted necks look so good. The MIM Classic Series being the perfect example.

This cheapo copy arrived with a slightly tinted headstock, but NOTHING on the fingerboard or rear of the neck. A few coats of button polish later, and you're looking at a completely different animal.....

Good news - the following message was posted this morning to a similar thread I had started over at www.fender.com -
