Overdrive pedal question

Hey guys,
I want to get some crunch and overdrive out of the clean side of my SCXD. The modeled side of the SCXD is great and I mostly use the #7 Vox'sih voice. But I loose the nuances of the vintage pickups, blender pot or series wiring on my MIM Strat on the modeled side. It's just not as clear.

The SCXD is still a keeper. I like the build in effects. I've tried a BBE Green Screamer on the clean side but I still loose that clarity.

I'm thinking about building a Valvecaster. I've read that it doesn't get really, really dirty. That's not what I'm after. I'd want a distortion effect that doesn't take away the clarity. Any suggestions of what to buy or build?

Thanks in advance!

ok i'm a little confused here do you want an od pedal or a distortion pedal? if the valvecaster doesn't get really dirty and you don't want to lose clarity wouldn't it be a good option?

next what are your skills, have you built other pedals or electronics?

anyways if you are after a distortion that has a lot of range try a rat clone. there are kits and you can find layouts at tonepad and madbeanpedals. it's a pretty simple build, i haven't done one myself but will start one soon. another option for a simple overdrive that sounds really good and can be fairly transparent is the run off groove peppermill.

I went through the same thing when I had a SCXD - I didn't like any of the voices on channel 2. Channel 1 is great, but because it's so bright and articulate, a lot of dirt pedals end up sounding kind of fizzy. Two pedals really stood out though - an OCD and a Barber LTD SR. The LTD SR sounded great with the SCXD.

I'd second that prop to the OCD, it's a great little circuit and can be bent and modified to fit almost any situation. It's dynamic and pretty easy on your tone transparency wise.

Used cheap Boss OS2. You can dial in as much overdrive or classic distortion as you like....and blend them. Really works well with different amps cause it can be tweaked to work with different amps. My favorite pedal despite the cheap price.
