M9 / M13 expression switch? Looking for diy info

I did a search but I'm not sure exactly what they're called. I'm looking to build a switch that allows me to change expression settings for a preset on my M13. Basically a switch to use in place of an expression pedal. Any help is appreciated.

Get a boss latching footswitch and plug that sucker in.

A cool effect I have found is to hook up a momentary footswitch (like a keyboard sustain pedal) and set it to control the volume perimeter for a kill-switchy sound.

Sorry, didn't see that you wanted to diy... Oops!

Buy a stomp box footswitch from

http://www.stewmac.com

And an enclosure + jacks + wire from

http://radioshack.com

And hook it up so that the switch connects/deconnects the two pins coming off the jack. Maybe even hook up a battery/resistor/LED setup so you can see if it's on or not...

Thanks man. So is it really just as simple as a break in a circuit? Is there a need for a small value resistor? ( I know enough to get myself in trouble) :)

Not entirely sure... It should work. Try by plugging in a cable and connecting the two parts with something conductive, then unconnect them. See if it works!

I'd like to build a expression control for my M9 that is a just a big ol' knob I could rotate with the side of my foot.

I use an ernie ball 6181 volume pedal as an expression pedal for the m9, which works great. It has a 25k pot. If I just wired up a 25k pot (linear taper?), would that work just as well? Thanks gents!

Not entirely sure why you would want this, but I guess it should...

Faraldi,

It's not a simple circuit breaking switch, but all you need to do is put a 10k resistor between the lugs of the switch.

I took an old orphaned peavey three button footswitch, got rid of the middle switch, wired in a couple of 10k resistors, cut the lead to about 2' long and added two 1/4" plugs to the end so I have both expression switches in one housing with built in cable.

I haven't used it yet other than to make sure it works.

Thanks very much. Dumb question... is the connection of the two wires connecting the tip and the sleeve?

Told ya! I'm dangerous with a little info.

So when the circuit is off, there's still a connection but it's got that resistor in the way, thus giving the M13 what it needs to function?

Please don't hate me. :)

Yeah. It has to have a detectable amount of resistance to acknowledge the presence of a pedal.
