diy box of rock build questions

i am looking into building a box of rock clone minus the boost circuit. the schematic i am using calls for a 5k reverse audio pot for the gain control. is it ok to use a 5k linear or 5k audio pot instead as i have access to these otherwise i will have to order them everything else for the build i can get locally i think with a few substitutions

A = Audio taper (log)
B = linear taper
C = Reverse taper (log)

You can sometimes substitute between them. For certain functions and/or circuits you'll need what is specified because it will work best. Here's an article that explains potentiometers and their function.

The linear pot is fine in the SHO or "modular SHO" circuits. The reverse audio just gives a slightly better "sweep." But since most folks set the gain (or boost) and forget it, IMO it's not that critical.
