ToneClone Mods

I got into a brief conversation with Chris at ToneClone as a result of some questions about my Nobleman kit that I ordered.

Here was something he said to me that you folks may or may not, find interesting or valuable:

"Hey, If I can get the mod from Tim I will post it up as part of the Mod Factory and it is all yours to do. The Mod Factory will continue to grow so even if you bought it now you would have access to it later when it is bigger and bigger. Once you are a registered user you will have lifetime access. We are trying to encourage the DIY community to post their personal mods and we will credit them. The list should grow quite large if people participate."

So even though they are asking you to pay for the list right now, apparently this will be changing once they get around to updating the page. so I'm thinking maybe I ought to contribute a mod of mine (really it belongs to 11Gauge because he helped me to get it right, as he educated me to be able to accomplish it)

Anyway, there it is.

IDK man...

Information sorta wants to be free. Whether it's barbershop gossip or Spinoza's philosophies... people are kinda old hens in that regard... spread the wealth. Selling kits of clones and then charging people to help "redesign" borrowed designs sounds like two methods for making money off of other people - they'll get you coming and going. I prefer personal-use clauses over shameless opportunism.

"Lifetime" membership to what? A forum to encourage customers - either of the kits or of the online community's help... you get that for free at TDPRI (and the quality here is fantastic, even if it was a paid membership site).

PS
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

I had the same misgivings. On one hand I thought it would be cool to build that kind of database on the Net. On the other, I thought "Cui bono?"

Yeah, that's one of my regular stops. I was thinking of a database of just mods, along the lines of the freeinformation site. No discussion, just raw, hard data.

One can wish, can't they?
