Help me resurrect this old BOSS pedal
Went to town yesterday with tthe wife and daughter. They went to the movies to see that vampire flick and I took a walk to the music store. While I'm there I see an employee toss an old Boss pedal in the trash. Asked him if it was dead and if I could have it to experiment with; maybe try to fix it or else use the shell and some of the components to build something else. It's a Boss HM-2 heavy metal distortion. I've got the schematics including the flip flop switching.I'd sort of like to resurrect this old pedal. Looked up the serial number at Boss' site and found out it's older than my oldest kid, who's 18 BTW
so pedal gurus help me out a little. I can read a schematic, built a tube amp recently but I've never had much luck with transistors. |

The truth be told, I'm actually looking to adding an HM-2 to my collection. So if it's just a bit of a fun project and no more, I'll take it off of your hands! Boss only made them a few years, and IMO they are superior to the MT-2.
Heck, I'd swap you a new (still in box) SD-1 for it. Or I have some ones with mods done to them, if you want to play around with one. PLEASE contact me if it's just a casual interest in resurrecting the HM-2, and you don't mind fiddling around with any Boss pedal.

I've got an old HM-2 too. I rather like it though it doesn't have a place on my board currently. An older dude I was in band with gave it to me in 1990 or so. It's darn wild and woolly, and the distortion sweep goes from "ultra-distortion" to "a little extra ultra-distortion." I remember reading that they are highly sought-after in swedish black metal circles or something. Crazy. I guess those guys just dime everything IIRC.
Anyhow, I'm kind of in the same boat, wondering about what could be done with it to improve it, if anything. But then again it's a lot of fun as is too. |
