Dead simple looper is probably still dead hard
I had a Boss RC20XL for a while but it didn't suit me so I traded it away. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely no looper out there being made that does what I actually want - can anyone give me some advice on how to build one, or if it's even possible? I have pretty basic soldering skills, but I could enlist my brother who fares much better at it if I need help.
Basically, I want a box with three stomp switches - Start and Stop, and maybe a dedicated bypass. It doesn't even need to do overdubs. I just find myself occasionally wanting to loop a passage I'm already playing so I can do something else over it. This would be for live use; I want it to be dead simple to use, but with a decent amount of capacity for playback - preferably enough for four bars at most tempos.

The Akai E2 Headrush is probably the simplist:

I have an older Headrush, and it works great for playing a phrase or chord progression. Very easy to use in that way, although its up to you to hit the button in correct time so you don't have a stutter when the phrase loops around. Mine is older so the time is too short to do a whole 12 bar blues, say, but the new ones have more seconds available.
I tried a friend's Boss RC20 out for a few days and it baffled me. The Digitech Jam Man might be easier to use. |
