Ishibashi MIJ `62 RI P-Bass
I've been trying to find a `62 RI P-Bass at a price I can swing and found this link. Does anyone have an opinion on Ishibashi in general and this product in particular? What shortcuts from the American RI should I expect from an instrument that is essentially half the selling price? Thanks to all.

I have no experience with them myself, but I've seen several posts about them over at The DudePit . I recall the posts as being all positive.

Ishibashi
I bought a used '62 J Bass (JB62-75US, I think) from Ishibashi awhile back. They were helpful and super easy to deal with. The bass was great, light, well balanced and played great. The rub with MIJ/CIJ is usually the pups and electrics, but I didn't find that to be the case. According to the Ishibashi site, the J (and your P) oughta be alder and have US vintage pups. The only thing I didn't like was the cheesy fake shell pickguard, which I replaced with a US '62 part, although it took a little work to get it to fit. Tuners were a little weak, but other than that, it acquitted itself nicely against an MIA '62 reish J I aquired. Whole deal, shipping and all cost me about $440 or so.
I'd buy from Ishibashi again. In fact, I've sorta been watching for a CIJ '52 Tele in the Ubox... Greg |
