What about this bass amp head & cabs?

The Gallien Krueger Backline 600 Bass head and the 15 and 2 10 inch bass cabinets.

$300 will buy you a good clean, used GK 800 which will eat a Backline for lunch ... a bit more would get a GK 700 RB II in the used market. $350 will purchase a nice new Avatar B-212 neo which is a cab I have quite a number of gig's on and can whole heartedly recommend. That would be a setup I would be comfortable gigging with on any but the largest stages out there. For the really large, outdoor stages, I would have to add a second cab, probably cross stage. This is a rig that could show up as a rented backline in a lot of pro or semi-pro environments.

I'm a big GK fan. I'm not a fan of the Backline series though. They just aren't packaged up in the same industrial kinda way as the rest of GK.

Think about this. It takes about the same number and type of componenets to build a $300 300 watt amp as it does a $600 300 watt amp. The difference in cost can largely attributed to the cost of the physical packaging and to the quality of the components. I think we can assume that the boards of both amps would have been built on an assembly line, by a largely automated process. Each would reauire some hands on assembly.

I'd rather invest in the more industrial packaging as in my experience, that translates into lifespan...

I heard it and it sounded pretty cool but i read about the issues it has with over heating etc. (the amp head)

Choosing a good bass amp is worse than doing the same with a guitar amp. At least you never have to worry about overheating with them.

Yep - this is why my rig's are based around ridiculously powerful amps... bass amps are long lifed, when they spend their life loafing... I typically use only 1 side of a stereo power amp. The amp is 400 a side, clean into 4 ohm which is where I run it. It's also stable at 1200 in to 2 ohms. If I'm tapping 1/2 of that 700 watt's I'd be suprised. The amp isn't even slightly warm atthe end of a 3 set show... overkill, maybe. Bullet proof ? yep. and an amp in the PA craps out, I can contribute a spare side.

The rack thigs is bulky but it really isn't a bad way to go for a lot of reasons. Mine is really simple. Amp, preamp. I do have an EQ in there but it isn't actually part of the bass rig. It's the EQ for the vocal monitors... keeps the other bassists in the area guessing though...
