Night Train
Just bought the Oscar Peterson "Night Train" CD on Verve Records. Recorded in 1962, with Ed Thigpen on drums (there used to be a Thigpen on the TDP...), and Ray Brown on bass. I'm flabbergasted (is that the word?), the bass playing is just SO good! Rock solid, swinging, confident, relaxed, and just RIGHT. I'm sitting here with my headphones on, shouting "YEAH!" into the silent Swedish night.

"Flabbergasted", good word, that!
"Gobsmacked" another good equivalent, and for those UK devotees of "Round the Horn", Kenneth Williams came up (several times) with "...my flabber has never been so gasted!"
I'll try and see if I can listen to that CD, sounds good!

I've always aspired to playing bass as well as Oscar's left hand. Ray was so strong though. Just an amazing player. The Petersen, Brown & Joe Pass Pablo recordings are still simply amazing. Three tunes into that swingfest and you realize - jeeze , no drummer ... Those guys could swing!
