I love the look of those, especially the bridge assembly. Nice!

'Preciate the positive comments.

They make a nice variation on the J bass.

One board member emailed that the factory must save spectacular pieces of ash for the orange finished models.

This one is light in weight, per the seller.

What strings do y'all like on your J basses?

What color is that? Whatever it is it's awsome. Nice score!

Ive never owned or even played a G&L bass, but mostly use D'addario nickel rounds and Fender 7250/8250's on Fender J basses with great sucess.

Jamie, that's a real looker. And I bet it sounds as good as it looks – let us know.

I used Rotosounds for years, but lately I've sort of migrated over to GHS Bass Boomers.

Keep us posted. Thx, CS :-)

Weds

S'posed to be delivered Weds.

May try TI Jazz Flats, or the TI EB344 "Power Bass".

Like the "growl" the Power Bass strings have on my ASATs and Climax basses.

Have the TI JFs on my Lynx. It has 2 single coil pickups. Helps to tame the inherent instrument's brightness.

The PUs on the JB-2 are Duncan Basslines. The seller had not pulled 'em to check whether they are the SJB2-Hots or the SJB1 "vintage" models.

I do have a set of the G&L Factory's Alnicos.

Thanks again for the positive comments.

Jamie

Hopefully Today

Arrived in Charlotte, and departed to the local hub.

Killing me it's cold out, 30F and the box will need to "assume room temp".

Got It!!!

Lightweight, great neck.

The natchral binding is nice looking.

The ash body has "Bearclaw" figure, comparable to acoustic guitar "Bearclaw" on the spuce tops.
Never have seen ash with figure before.

Pulled it apart today, it's a 2001, as marked on the body. Couldn't read the Month/Day.
Only mark on the neck is JB2. No date.

The neck has the microtilt metal button, but it is a six bolt neck attachment.
Neck is a bicut, not the new factory trussrod.

The Duncan SJB2s that were installed, have a muscular midrange, but still a vintage sound.

I replaced them with a set of the factory JB PUs. Sounds mo' vintage now.

The Trib JB-2 I owned previously. had Duncan Antiquity IIs.
As I recall they were smoother sounding than the factory stock units.

Waiting on a trade for DR Low Rider nickle rounds, before restringing.
My favorite for my G&Ls is the TI EB344, AKA Power Bass strings.

I took it out today, trying out new amps.
Talk about a harsh environment. Plenty of flourescent fixture buzz, even with both PUs full on.

I was advised to shield tape the control cover.
The control cavity has the shield paint.

All in all, a great bass.
