Any cool starter bass books/DVDs for young beginning bass player?

My almost-ten-year-old son wants to play bass. He'll probably give it up in a month or so, but in the meantime, I was hoping to put some kind of instructional book/DVD under the tree for him. I already have a Squier bass hiding in the bedroom.

Any suggestions for something that would work? I don't want a TAB only kind of thing that doesn't have any basic instruction; on the other hand, he'll lose interest yesterday if it's "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore" and other boring songs.

For some reason (no fault of mine), he likes KISS and AC/DC... basic rock stuff. A music teacher at the high school found a "Rock Bass for Beginners" book/DVD from Alfred Publishing online for me, but he's never seen it and knows nothing about it... Any other ideas?

Ed Friedland is the man and he has a new beginner DVD out. Haven't seen it but I've never heard anyone have anything but high praise for his books and videos.

And he's a real nice guy in person.

Thanks. Dave, I think I saw the Hal Leonard book with a digital-VD online when that band teacher was looking for stuff this afternoon. Getbent... do you know anything about that roley salley DVD or where it's available?

Has anyone here used any other book/DVDs that you think would work... or has anyone used one that you know wouldn't work (ones to avoid)?

Yeah. I own it... It is good.. he is the bass player for Chris Isaak and I misspelled his name it is Roly Salley available here and here

I got it awhile back for a friend who I was trying to con into playing bass with me... and I ended up getting hooked... it is useful and musical and I think not boring... (most stuff does not bore me though)
