Well this sound okay? Will this hurt the amp (low volumes)

It should be fine as long as you keep the volume down.

In general, low volumes for a short period of time should be fine but you don't say what amp you are planning to use. If the amp is old, sorry... I meant "vintage" :) , I'd be concerned about damaging the speaker.

I didn't mention the amp

because I'm selling my current one searching for another one.

In general it's a bad idea due to the relatively fragile nature of guitar speakers as compared to bass speakers. Having said that, I've played bass at very low volume through my Fender Pro Reverb 2x12 and it sounds really good. I'm way careful though and more often than not, I would take the output of the pro to a 1x15 bass cabinet.

Also keep in mind that an open backed cabinet gives you very little fundamental. The low frequencies phase cancel each other out.

I was in a band with a bass player that played thru a '73 Super Reverb for years. Not awfully loud, but loud enough. Still uses that amp for guitar now. I wouldn't recommend it, but at low volumes it will work ok.

Very true. I've mic'd up the Pro for recording a couple of times to get just that sound. Bass with foam mute and flat's to complete the ensemble. It's kind of a classic early elec bass sound. For me, worthless in a live setting but as a recorded 'effect', it's pretty cool.

In the case of my buddy's SR it was always miced. Carol Kaye also mentioned using a SR in the studio for recording.
