I'd love to get one of those early SB-2 basses. I have an SC-2 (guitar version) that is sweet, and an L-1000 bass that is the best ever, so I figure an SB-2 ought to be like a mix of the two.

Man, that's a GREAT score, congrats! :-) I have a #6 neck on my L-2000 Leo Fender signature (which is my #1 bass, and which I plan to keep as long as my fingers can still play...) ;-) but I would dearly love to find an SB-2 just like that one. Way to go! – CS

How 'bout that $850 for the 'reliced' SB-2 Version 1? Sheesh.
That 'Flake L1500 with binding was nice, $700. And the 'Flake L2000 was a nice one, $800. I just about missed the SB-2. It was behind a bunch of amps. Dealer dropped the asking price $100, when I picked it up. Has a couple dings, but very good shape. Needs a setup when I get some new strings. High action. Came with steels. Prefer nickles for a warmer sound. Considering adding stacked pots for vol/tone on each pickup. jamie |

Great score on the SB-2. I had one that I sold to Ken Baker over at the pit. A dead ringer on the body except maple neck. One of the two basses I've sold that I should have kept...
Play the frets off that baby before you do the control change. My first though was to do a V V T j-bass, jb-2 setup. What I found was that the bridge pup is really on that bass as a tone control. It doesn't really stand alone all that well. Adding or pulling a bit of that pup contributes to the Pbass on steroids character of the SB-2. In the end I left mine alone. It's damned near perfect as is. If you do want to do the tone control mod, you probably know the G&L forum over at The Dudepit. Brad Dell (bdgotoh) has some nice pics of what he did. That would be a good reference. Out of all the G&L's that have run through my stable, that is the one I miss... |
