What's the word? Thunderbird!
Got a new Epi T-Bird Pro. Very happy so far. (When I say "new", I mean used. Traded 2 pedals and $100 for it.)
Anybody else have one? It's been a while since I was this excited about playing a bass (And I've had a J-Bass, a P-Bass, and a knockoff J-Bass that I bought for $15 and later sold for $85--still kicking myself over that sale.) Anyway... Lost track of time this afternoon. Very excited. Think I may be a bass player. Been playing mediocre guitar for 22 years and just will never be a great guitar player. I'm sure I'll keep playing both. But I suspect if I want to get in a decent band I have a better shot now, although rehearsing 3-5 nights a week for theatre may still get in the way... |

Bird, Bird, Bird, T-Bird is the word
Really cool guitar, has a great punch, is quite universal despite the stereotypes and it looks cool... It has this neck dive issue some people hate. I don't. So I like it a lot. Post some pics and stay "bassed" if it makes you so happy!

Enjoy that bass but remember, it's not a guitar. Time to pick up a brand new set of habits or you'll end up being a mediocre bassist too.
Don't give up the six string. Playing both make will make you a better bassist but compartmentalization is a good thing. Wear a different hat for each.

i've picked up a couple of those basses in store and played them some. they are good buys for the money. seemed like they were a bit neck-heavy, tho.

Okieactor: your story reminds me of myself. I was a bass player in the 60's then in the 90's fulfilled a desire to play lead guitar in a band. I managed to do that but I described myself as an average lead player. A person can learn and play fills and leads in 5 dozen songs or so. I went back to bass in early 2002 and never looked back. I know which instrument I'm better at playing.
T-birds do have that neck dive reputation. Neat to have in one's arsenal. |

It has a strap button added where the neck plate would be. I don't think it bothers me so far. I can feel the neck dive if I put it in the original place, but if I attach it in back, not so much. I don't know. It REALLY bothers some players. I played some in store, put a strap on them, tried this one before I bought, not a big thing for me. Read the reviews. It's the only thing consistently complained about on these. Pretty awesome, IMO. They get about the same reviews as MIM Fender bases, which cost one or two hundred more (I would have easily taken the regular T-bird as well, just happened on the Pro model -- LOVE the variety of sounds it can make.) Love MIM Fender basses as well, not knocking them. But I've had both a P-Bass and a J-Bass and don't remember ever being this excited. Something about this one...
Anyway...about to post pics. |
