Another bronco caster
Started with a 9 piece pine body I got off eBay and a squier bronco that I tore apart for the neck and bridge.
Used reranch nitro sealer, primer and olympic white. Cut down the headstock with a jig saw and then filed it down before sanding. Used a drill and chisels to make the neck pocket longer. Also wired in some 250k cts pots to the stock pup. Currently waiting for some tunners from stew-Mac and a jack plate so I can set the action and Inonate it. |

Congratulations. Looks super nice! Seriously worth the effort. Were you at all intimidated by extending the neck pocket into the PU route? I`m thinking I should do the same but am getting cold feet about it as the ttime draws nearer. Take care. Bob

Ya I was a little. Think I stared at it for a few days LOL. I used a large drill bit with duct tape on it so I'd know how deep I could go to get the bulk of it out then finished with chisels. The pocket is super tight but I wished I woulda cut my own pick guard from scratch.

No neck route at all? Wow that did take some nerve. How much did that bring the neck down?
I will be making my own PG as well. Can`t get exactly what I want otherwise & cannot afford to have it done professionally. I have the back from an old acoustic guitar that I will use by transfering a Pbass pattern onto. Then trim to fit brdge plate and control plate as needed. Probably stain it dark brown to fit into the color scheme. Your work looks nice & clean. Can I assume that is not your first build? Anyway thanks for sharing your project with us. Take care. Bob

I just sat a drill bit in the neck pocket and noted the depth of it by wraping a piece of duct tape around the bit to know how far or how deep I could drill to keep the pocket extension level with the existing guitar pocket ... I'll take a pic and show ya.
This is my third guitar build but I've also built one of those stew-Mac violin kits for my daughter. My other two builds were a flying V highschool woodshop project back in '92 and then last year I made a strat relic from hell. |

Not sure how far I brought the neck down.... I marked the back of the heal of the neck while it was on the original bronco body(made a line on the neck heal where the body stoped) then sat the neck on the tele body where it looked good and traced the heal shape onto the body... Drilled out the majority of the wood then used chisels to remove and shape the rest.
Hope that helps |

This is how I marked the heal , but while it was in the bronco body then set the neck on the tele body till the mark was flush and then traced the bottom of the neck on the tele so I'd k ow about how far and wide to drill an chisel My duct taped drill bit.. So I'd know how deep I could drill My strat relic from hell. Strings are off so I can put some cts pots in it to wake up my fralins |
