The big "Show-your-eighties-made-bass" thread

And I'll start by showing my 1983 Ibanez Roadstar RB 620 bass. This bass blows every Fender out of the water.

nice looking fender blower you got there. Hope you don`t mind (if you do I`ll remove it) but I tried to isolate the bass a bit by cropping & cleaning up the background in the link below. Take care. Bob

This thread will be predominated with Japanese gear, I reckon. And that's good, cause 80's Japanese gear rocks.
But sometimes it's good to do the ol' American thing:

1983 Peavey T-40

1982 Sunn SB160, as a bonus.

1983 JV Fender Jazz Bass Special.
Not sure what is the official Fender colour name. I just call it chrome red.

I assume this one was made in the eighties, but I've never bothered to check on whether or not it can be narrowed down via the serial # or not.

This is definitely eighties, but I rebuilt and refinished it out of a pile of parts a few years ago.
It originally had neon green paint on the body and a neon pink neck but when I got it that had all been mostly stripped and covered with a layer of nasty black spray paint.

My 1987 Hamer Cruise bass.

Sounds like a shotgun marriage between a P-Bass and a Gibson Thunderbird.

These Bartolinis pack one hell of a wallop.

Actually, Thumposaurus, I suspect your Kramer bass may be late 70's. I knew another bassist who had a similar one and I believe it was a 78.

I was born in '78 so that would be pretty cool if it was.

For sure 1978 to 1979. Here's a picture of me back in 1978 playing a house party with my 77 or 78 Kramer. That was nice bass. Sold it to buy my first Fender Pbass.

Blazer the pickguard on your Ibanez looks quite tele like. Is it original or has it been replaced or modified? Thanks & take care. Bob

Nope all the Roadstar basses from that era had pickguards like that, here's a page of the 1983 Ibanez catalog to prove it.

Mine is in an incredibly clean condition, one couldn't tell it's almost 30 years old.

NBD 80's Bass

Picked up a another bass this week. Charvel, MIJ, with passive pickups, bolt on neck, and made sometime in 1986-87. I believe the model number is 2B.
Controls are from left to right as Volume, Pickup blend ( to the right is neck pickups, to the left is bridge pickup, stop at center ), and tone.
I have to give her a good cleaning, Fret-board is gunky and frets have some corrosion.
Neck pickups are not working so hopefully just a wiring/connection issue. I think, because of the moldy smell in the case and the corrosion on the frets, this bass was stored in a damp environment. The damp may have corroded a pickup connection joint or wire.
Neck is straight and intonation is dead on. Seems to tune quite well.
If I have to replace the neck pickups, then anybody have a good recommendation for a passive replacement ?

What kind of pups are they? Its hard to see from the pic. You really can't go wrong with "Quarter Pounders" from SD. If they are those "Select by EMG" those sound fantastic on the 80's bass I have.

They are definitely passive and not active. I pulled her apart and cleaned her up yesterday. Tested all the wiring and everything checked out okay. Scratched my head a few times and then checked the jack and sure enough it's loose. So all I need now is a new jack. I polished the frets and cleaned the finger board.
Funny thing the pickup covers a glued on. I got the bridge cover off but the neck pickups are sealed real tight. The pickups have no id marks so I'm guessing they are some OEM type Charvel had made off shore.

I must this bass is pure rock beast. Doesn't sound at all like my Fenders. I'm starting to fall in love with it.
