What are they called?
Picked up a batch of original Fender promo pictures (sent in the 60s to music stores that carried Fender) with various celebrities playing Fenders. My question, what are these pictures called? They are in alot of the Fender books. The most famous one is the shot of Bob Dylan with a Jazz Bass. I also got ones of Thumbs Carlise, Buck Owens, Del Shannon, The Beach Boys, Tex Ritter, the Shipmaters (with Papa John Creach), etc.
I've been called them lobby cards, but that only draws blank looks. Is there an official term for these things. They are like 8 by 10s, but have the name and Fender on them. |

I never heard them called anything but promo photos. AFAIK there was no other special term for them.
Lobby cards were smaller movie promo cards specifically made to be displayed inside theater lobbies. |

Cards
Thanks, I just thought there was a term for them. Tried looking them up on Ebay, but couldn't find anything outside of magazine ads or Fender promotional booklets.
I know lobby cards are for movies, but these photos are about the same size. Mine came from a store called McDuff's in Worchester, MA. The seller got them when the store closed its doors. |
