My First Bass
I have been eying this beauty for a while at GC (used) and said to myself if it was still there today I would buy it.
![]() Not sure why I am attracted to it so much but I am. I've been wanting a bass for a while now and was considering one of the new Squire's, which seem really nice for the money. I was really looking for a shorter scale bass though. Not sure if it's all original and I may take a peek under the hood this weekend. A part of me really doesn't care because I like the way it fits and feels. The S/N starts with S7 so I'm guessing late 70's. I'll probably be asking some stupid questions about strings and things but right now the strings feel smooth and slinky so I probably won't need any for a while. Anyway, thought I'd share. |

I played one of the squire Classic Vibe Jazz basses and I'm totally in love with it...I dont even play bass, but I'm totally getting it
Compared it to an American standard and would walk away with the Squire if I had the money on me.

Thanks everyone, I know I'm going to have fun with this!
Unfortunately, all I have to play it through is a Fender GDEC and an AC-30CC2. I played with the GDEC last night for a while but didn't hear anything close to a decent sound. Admittedly, I never really learned anything about it since I have used my Roland Micro-Cube exclusively until I got the AC-30. I'm going to see what sounds I can get out of the AC-30 today or tomorrow but I feel another amp is in my future (insert smile here). Oh, I gave my niece the Roland last weekend (along with a Tele) so I don't have that anymore. Any recommendations for a decent bass amp (either used or new) for a few hundred or less? I was looking at Musicmaster amps on eBay and they don't seem too expensive. I know that people like to use them for guitar but would it make a good bass amp? Thanks! Here are more pics... ![]()

That's a beauty! A note: the pickup in it is almost certainly a strat-style 6-pole guitar pickup, and if find you don't dig it, any strat replacement pickup will fit. I put a GFS twin rail humbucker in mine and liked it a lot...

Again, thanks everyone - I took a peek under the hood last night and it is all original; including the "strat" type PU.
Having said that, I have a strange inclination to mod it. Reading the "HOSS" thread I realized I have an MIM LPB top-load body just waiting to be used with a couple of Esquire pickguards. Hmmmm............. Pic:

"Son of Hoss" has a nice ring to it!
Since it has a 6-pole "strat-type" pickup in it already, I may try one of my Nocaster pickup's, mounted ala G.E. Smith. It may not be at a node, which is what, 1/4 scale length? Hah! Will buy a/some chisels tomorrow! My screwdrivers are dulll... Edited to add: Just thought I'd mention that I tried the bass through the AC-30 last night and I thought it sounded pretty good. It sounded better than the GDEC, which is not saying much...
