$25 bass score!

I've been in need of a bass for a long time, but foundations has been very limited during the last few years.

Yesterday I paid 25 bucks for a P-style of unknown manufacture. A bassplayer friend bought it new as a backup just because it was cheap. It was sold under brand name Alba on UK E-bay, but the headstock is blank. It was about $90 new. His Japanese '85 Greco Rickenbacker copy arrived on Monday, so he doesn't need the backup anymore. Good for me!

It's a black P-bass copy, probably Chinese. It plays very well and it sounds good enough for me. Hell, I don't pay much attention to bass tone as long as it covers the low end and is out of the way for other instruments.

Neck is actually very good with nice fretwork. Unfinished neck will probably look ugly at some point, but it sure feels nice. Tuners work well. The bridge look a little on the weak side, but it works. Pots are cheap, but won't be replaced until failure. Paint job is not impressive, but I don't really care. I will just use it in the home studio. It could end up as white later though.

I already had it in the house as I had resoldered the tone pot for him. I was thinking about offering him 70 bucks for it, as I knew he wouldn't need it anymore. When I asked him he said "25 bucks and you give my Greco a good setup". Deal!

Alright, here's a couple of poor pics.

The yellowish hue on the pickguard is traces of... Wallpaper!

For starters I'll try to get that clean.

The strings alone are probably worth about $20! Nice score...

I was thinking something like that as well, but around here you won't find bass strings under $35. But on the other hand, they're used. At least a little.
