While I'm not a fan of "acoustic guitar" basses, this one looks sweet...

not a fan of the genre. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt... While it's a cool look, betcherbutt it's a neck diver ...

A bass that impressed me recently was an Epiphone El Capitan (Captain ?) 4 stringer. Not real expensive. Tarted up with all kinds of exotic looking wood. I'm pretty sure all that flamey stuff is some chemical treatment thing as all the low enders are using it ... Didn't sound too bad. Not real loud - but then even the loudest of these isn't loud enough so you're stuck with the pickup no matter what ... the one I played was something like 3 bills used, in a nice hardshell case. Probably a decent deal for an instrument to have around the ranch... as previously discussed. I'm just not rich enough for instruments that don't work for a living.

Oh, there's no danger of me BUYING one, as I agree that these things generally aren't loud enough to actually use unplugged, and I'm quite happy with my solid-bodied basses if I'm amplifying!

I just like the looks!

I always liked the acoustic bass guitar sound of The Violent Femmes. Any other group that features it?

AH!

That thing looks awesome.

I might need an amp to plug it into though.

The only bass of this kind that ever impressed me was the tacoma thunderchief. But Ebay has a plethora of laminated upright basses for around $600.

Our bass player uses an acoustic as his main gigging instrument. I thought he was better off with his solidbody, to be honest, but - whatever works. I'm also curious if any one else uses one.

Can I ask you bass players who are not a fan of acoustic basses why you're not into them? Just curious.

Here is another looker, that got my attention. It's not an ABG, but deserves an honorable mention.

They aren't generally loud enough to be heard well acoustically, so you have to plug them in to jam with others, and if you're gonna plug in, a regular electric bass is usually a lot more comfortable...
