. . . as a practice amp? Max 110 at GC

I'm new to bass, and this model seems to offer pretty good bang for the buck.

Any thoughts from current owners? Other recommendations in this price range?

There is quite a following on the talkbass forum regarding the Acoustic brand. Here is the 12" model.

I owned a Peavey Max 110 for quite some time. It's good if used strictly as a practice amp but that's about it. I would go with a 12" speaker and a bit more power if you think you're going use for more than practicng in the near future.

i owned the previous generation of that amp - the peavey minx - and i still have it today. although, i must be honest to say that it only powers either a drum machine or a microKORG. it was a pretty good amp, but it won't be very helpful for gigs. except for jazz gigs...but it isn't powerful enough for an upright bass.

I've been using a 35watt Peavey Maxx 112 as a bedroom bass amp and it's excellent.

My advice would be to save a bit more money and buy an amp with enough power to at least hang with a drummer. It's easy to turn a gig-worthy amp down for practicing at home, but it's extremely frustrating to have an amp that isn't loud enough to play with others, and bass is usually an ensemble instrument...

I have a Peavey Basic 112 which is rated at 50 watts and it doesn't cut it at band practice, I took it with me twice rather than my Trace Elliot 4 x 10 and it couldn't compete with the drums and when I cranked it up fully the speakers just couldn't handle it and were on the verge of giving up. It would be fine for a guitar and bass practice session but not if a drummer is involved.
